Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU (Night Shift)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 32 beds, mixed acuity patients including medical diagnoses and pre/post-surgical care.
- Night shift hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Schedule: 36 hours per week, every other weekend
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Skills
- Experience with telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Participation in rapid response/code teams
- IV therapy and blood product administration
- Central line and PICC care, heparin protocols
- Respiratory support and wound care
- Pre- and post-surgical patient care
Additional Job Details
- Floating and on-call responsibilities required
- Teaching hospital experience is welcomed
- One pre-approved time-off request allowed per contract
- Scrub color and details provided at orientation
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed for new travelers)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination accepted)
- Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (mask required if declined)
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment length)
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually thereafter
- Background check and license verifications must be current and compliant with facility policies
Certifications and Competencies
- Unit-specific competency exams required, including:
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
- License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates

Shift and Schedule
- Night shift (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
- 36 hours per week, every other weekend off
