Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU (Night Shift)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 32 beds, mixed acuity patients including medical diagnoses and pre/post-surgical care.
• Night shift hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Schedule: 36 hours per week, every other weekend

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Skills

• Experience with telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Participation in rapid response/code teams
• IV therapy and blood product administration
• Central line and PICC care, heparin protocols
• Respiratory support and wound care
• Pre- and post-surgical patient care

Additional Job Details

• Floating and on-call responsibilities required
• Teaching hospital experience is welcomed
• One pre-approved time-off request allowed per contract
• Scrub color and details provided at orientation

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
• Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed for new travelers)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease
• Immunizations and health documentation required:

  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella
  • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination accepted)
  • Varicella immunity (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (mask required if declined)
• Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid for entire assignment length)
• Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually thereafter
• Background check and license verifications must be current and compliant with facility policies

Certifications and Competencies

• Unit-specific competency exams required, including:

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
• License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start

References and Documentation

• Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
• Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates

Shift and Schedule

• Night shift (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
• 36 hours per week, every other weekend off
