Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit
Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Work on an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), 5th Floor
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 4:1, may be 5:1 depending on patient acuity
- Care involves post-procedural patients and stroke care
- Experience with drips including Neo (up to 100), Precedex, Insulin (glucomander), arterial lines, and TR bands required
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of Stepdown experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year
- Current certifications:
- ACLS
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an inpatient setting
- Experience with Neo (norepinephrine) drip at IMCU level of care
- Experience with Precedex drip at IMCU level of care
- Experience with Insulin using glucomander at IMCU level of care
- Stroke experience
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
Shift & Hours
- Day shift: 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Emergency contact form prior to start
- Background checks including 7-year residence/work history, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN staff)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date
- Fit mask test within 1 year and updated annually (specific N95 masks required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted)
- Immunization or positive titer proof for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella (or documented history of chickenpox)
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
- Pneumonia vaccination or declination required
- 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start date
- Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York requirement)
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% score or meet Angoff score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit staff; expires every 3 years)
- Color blindness test prior to start (no expiration)
- Skills checklist updated annually
References
- 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 3 years)
- 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles
Additional Notes
- Local candidates accepted with local bill rate (contact recruiter for details)
- Must complete facility-specific online learning modules prior to first shift
- Facility-specific documents such as job description, welcome packet, Omnicell form, and pneumococcal declination (if applicable) must be signed and submitted
- Photo for badge must be a professional headshot (plain background, no head coverings, no informal gestures)
