Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a well-rounded Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse with strong Oncology Surgery and general surgery experience. The role primarily involves day shifts with possible night shift rotations and occasional off-shifting. The position requires flexibility to float outside the specialty area as needed.
Work Schedule
- Primarily Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (3 shifts/week, 12 hours each)
- Possible Night Shift Rotation: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3 shifts/week, 12 hours each)
- Weeknight call: 1-2 nights per week on average
- Weekend call: Approximately every 4-5 weeks (24-hour coverage on Saturday or Sunday)
- Off-shifting: Possible 1-3 shifts per 4-week scheduling period, but often not required
- Block scheduling is NOT accommodated
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room RN experience
- Oncology Surgery experience required, with general surgery experience also necessary
- Float experience required (ability to work outside of specialty)
- Level 2 trauma experience required; Level 1 trauma experience strongly preferred
- Experience with majority of the following surgical cases:
- Whipple procedure
- Esophagectomy
- Exploratory Laparotomy (Ex Lap)
- Bowel resection
- Thyroidectomy
- Parathyroidectomy
- Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy
- Neck dissection
- Breast reduction
- Stage one and two breast reconstruction
- Free Flaps
- Mastectomy
- Lumpectomy
- Sentinel lymph node biopsy
- Melanoma excisions
- DaVinci surgical system experience highly preferred
- Oncology, Orthopedic, and Neurosurgery experience highly preferred
- Must be nicotine-free (100% nicotine-free facility)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
- Valid Driver's License
Additional Information
- Scrubs provided by the facility for OR/Surgical staff
- Locals are NOT accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility
- Parking permits available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
- Call-back pay applies only if called back after leaving the facility post-shift
- Travelers are paid differently than core staff; pay policies differ regarding call-back and extended shifts
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with oncology surgery expertise who have prior travel contract experience and are flexible with shift rotations and call requirements.
