Medical Surgical Oncology Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology
- Unit: Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Oncology
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratio: 4:1
- Average Daily Census: 30 patients
- Beds: 32
- Floating required throughout the Oncology department as needed
- Every other weekend required
- Patient care includes auto stem cell transplants and chemotherapy administration
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of Oncology/Chemotherapy nursing experience (highest required)
- Administration of chemotherapy and blood/blood products
- Accessing/managing ports and central/implanted lines, PICC line care
- Central line blood draws
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Antibiotics and antiemetics administration
- Foley catheter insertion and management
- Isolation precautions
- Telemetry interpretation and monitoring
- Must pass Relias Basic Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (interpretation/management of dysrhythmias required)
- Floating flexibility within Oncology units
Note: First-time travel nurses are accepted (prior travel experience not required).
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Oncology experience within the last year (minimum 1 year)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- ONS or ONCC Oncology certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Accessing and managing ports
- Central line blood draws and care of central/implanted lines
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree
- State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri Highway Patrol, MO FCSR, Illinois exclusions if applicable)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, including a comprehensive panel
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) with annual renewal
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (no exemption for Bone Marrow Transplant Unit)
- Negative TB test or equivalent within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination (no exemptions for certain units)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season (Sept 30 – Apr 1)
- HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy – all must be reviewed and signed prior to start
- Regulatory Compliance Education and Orientation Modules (approx. 16 hours) required annually via online platform
