Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:45 AM – 07:15 PM)
  • Average Daily Census: 38 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • On-Call: Not required
  • Floating: Floating to like units within scope as needed
  • Block Schedule: Flexible; discuss with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • Guaranteed Hours: Subject to client call-offs up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Experience in the following work settings is required:
    • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
    • Telemetry (unit and remote monitoring)
    • Cardiac Telemetry
    • Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Day Observation Unit (DOU), Intermediate Care (IMC), Stepdown units

Clinical Skills & Case Experience

  • Cardiac:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac catheterization, cardiac surgery care
    • Sheath removal, TR band management
  • Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
  • Renal: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
    • Accessing ports, arterial line management
    • Blood product administration
    • Central, peripheral, and PICC line care and management
    • Starting IVs
  • Medication Management:
    • Heparin protocols
    • Managing and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA)
  • Neurological/Psychiatric: Care for cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients
  • Surgical: Experience with surgical drains
  • Respiratory:
    • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
    • External CPAP/BIPAP
    • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
    • Non-invasive airway management
  • Professional Skills:
    • Isolation precautions
    • Wound care and wound vac management

Technology & Facility Preferences

  • Cerner electronic health record experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Level I trauma center experience preferred

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license required (no pending licenses accepted)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required (AHA or RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (AHA or RQI acceptable)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days prior to start
  • State-specific criminal and offender registry searches required within 30 days prior to start
  • Education verification required (official or unofficial transcripts accepted if pending)
  • Competency exam required for clinical candidates
  • Drug screening (9-panel) required within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within one year of start, including labs scheduled within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • TB testing or chest x-ray within one year of start
  • Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually

Additional Facility Requirements

  • Badge photo submission within one week of contract signing
  • Code of conduct review and signature within 7 days of contract signing
  • Parking permit required (no cost)
  • Name confirmation for hospital badge required

Notes

  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
  • Candidate may be called off shifts up to specified limits without pay
  • No prior travel experience required for this position

This role offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, acute care setting with a focus on telemetry and intermediate care nursing, ideal for RNs with strong cardiac and critical care skills.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Telemetry experience
  • Cerner electronic health record experience
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
