Registered Nurse – Travel/Contract

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Unit: 9 Trauma (45-bed medical/surgical trauma unit)

Job Details

• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Option for 36 or 48-hour shifts and 13 or 26 week contracts (this posting is for 13 weeks)
• Patient population: Trauma patients who are hemodynamically and medically stable, admitted from ED, ICU transfers, or surgical/procedural services
• Fast-paced specialty medical/surgical unit
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 days, 1:6 nights (rarely 1:7 nights)
• Float requirement: Travelers are first to float and must be prepared to float frequently within scope to various units including trauma, neuro, med/surg, observation, and others (including a nearby campus)
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
• Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during contract
• Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
• Facility is 100% nicotine free

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; if not, booking will be 6 weeks out)
• Minimum 2 years RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting
• EPIC electronic medical record experience required
• BLS certification required
• Drip medication administration experience required on all floors
• First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required, but first timers generally not accepted unless meeting above criteria

Certifications & Compliance

• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification as applicable per unit description
• Background check within 30 days of start, including multiple county/state/federal checks
• Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
• Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Tdap within last 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray with questionnaire annually
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (measles, mumps, rubella) with boosters if needed
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
  • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
  • COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
• Education verification and references (2 work references within past 2 years) required
• Annual skills checklist required
• State-specific registry and abuse/neglect checks required

Additional Information

• Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
• Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
• RTO (Request Time Off): Up to 2 weeks allowed, must be submitted with application; additional requests at manager discretion
• Blackout dates for time off due to local events (e.g., College World Series)
• Government-issued photo ID required
