Registered Nurse – Stepdown / MedSurg / Telemetry Unit

Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• MedSurg role with frequent floating to Stepdown and MedSurg/Telemetry units.
• Must be comfortable working in both MedSurg and Stepdown units.
• Patient ratios: Stepdown 1:4-5, MedSurg 1:5-6.
• Unit is a 22-bed adult MedSurg Oncology unit.
• Shift schedule includes weekdays, every other weekend, floating, and holidays as needed.
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
• MedSurg nursing experience.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Competencies

• BCLS (Basic Life Support) required.
• NIH Stroke Certification required for MedSurg RNs.
• Chemo certification may be required for Oncology/Infusion nurses but not required for this MedSurg/Oncology unit.
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.

Uniform

• Scrubs not provided; royal blue/white colors required.

Background and Health Requirements

• Clean criminal background check with no license or background hits accepted.
• Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during work hours.
• Drug testing: 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted).
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands required.
• Immunizations and titers required or facility-specific declination forms for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccine series)
  • Varicella
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination
  • COVID vaccination or declination
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required; TB questionnaire required for positive responders.

Documentation & Evaluations

• Proof of 2 clinical references required.
• Performance evaluation required if previously completed assignments through any agency.
• Complete employment application/resume required.
• Skills checklist must be updated annually.
• Facility-specific orientation and safety modules (~81 modules) must be completed prior to first shift.
• Badge photo required (no hats, sunglasses, filters, or shadows).

Additional Notes

• First-time travelers accepted.
• Floating between MedSurg and Stepdown units is frequent and mandatory.
• Must be comfortable working holidays and every other weekend.
