Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Shift: Nights, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

Job Details

• Unit: Medical Surgical / Telemetry
• Patient Ratio: 1:12 using a team nursing model (effectively 1:6-7 shared between 2 RNs, LPN, and Med Nurse)
• Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center
• On-Call: As needed
• Weekend Requirement: As needed (no block scheduling except possibly weekend blocks, to be discussed during interview)
• Locals: Not accepted (strict 100-mile radius rule)
• First-time travelers: Not accepted unless candidate has 5+ years of specialty experience
• Pending license: Not accepted; must comply with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
• Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Must be submitted with application; no late submissions accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Tennessee
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• NIHSS
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients

Additional Requirements

• Two recent professional references required
• Background checks within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification (international checks not required)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
• Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
• Photo for badge with strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats, no glasses glare, no filters, taken within last 6 months)
• Facility-specific dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidery allowed
• Completion of facility-specific questionnaires and submission packets as required
• Competency exams and core training modules must be current (within 1 year) and updated annually

Important Notes

• First-time travelers without 5+ years specialty experience typically do not succeed at this facility
• Weekend block scheduling may be considered but must be discussed during interview
• All required documents and clearances must be submitted timely; late submissions may delay or prevent start
• Facility is a Level I Trauma Center requiring trauma nursing experience
• Team nursing model used, sharing patient load among multiple nursing staff

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical / Telemetry RNs with trauma and large hospital experience who have prior travel assignments and are ready for a night shift travel contract in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
