Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Massena, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (12-hour shifts)
• Schedule: Every other weekend coverage (EOW)
• Patient Diagnoses: COPD, Pneumonia, Non-specific abdominal pain, Cellulitis, Chest pain rule out
• Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:6
  • Nights: 1:7
  • Weekends: 1:8
• Locals: Must live more than 50 miles away
• First-time travelers: Not accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Telemetry experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

System/Technology Requirements

• Epic electronic health record system experience required

Health and Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract (if booked within 30 days of start):

• Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (within 10 years)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season

Background and Verification Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• 7-year criminal background check including all aliases, national/state/county checks, social security address check, sex offender registry, education verification, and international searches if applicable
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Education verification from registrar’s office (transcripts/diplomas not accepted)
• 7-year work history verification (attestation letter accepted as last resort)
• Professional references (2 required)
• Employment application and annual skills checklist
• Online license verification (NURSYS for RN) within 30 days of start
• Harassment prevention training certificate (annual requirement)
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as required
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for all candidates

Additional Information

• Scrubs: Any nursing uniform color allowed
• Photo for badge: Clear, passport-style with solid background required
• Candidates must review facility-specific policies on patient confidentiality, sexual harassment prevention, patient experience training, and pre-employment compliance
• Modules and training must be completed prior to start date as instructed by the facility
• PAPR education required only if fit test is failed and PAPR exemption is requested

Important Notes

• Prior travel experience is not accepted for first-time travelers on this unit
• Candidates must be prepared for weekend coverage every other weekend
• Strict adherence to expiration dates on health documents is required; documents expiring during the contract must be renewed prior to expiration to avoid removal from the floor

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with strong telemetry and medical-surgical skills, who are comfortable managing complex patient care and working in a fast-paced hospital environment.
