Job Opportunity: Step Down Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Location: Redlands, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide care on a step-down unit with a 1:3 patient ratio including patients with tracheostomies and ventilator management.
  • Manage non-titrated cardiac drips such as Amiodarone, Milrinone, Lasix, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and titrated Cardizem.
  • Insulin management (3:1 ratio) preferred but not required.
  • Float within areas of competency including medical/surgical, telemetry, and observation units.
  • Weekend work required: minimum 2 weekends per month.
  • Use of Omnicell medication system and SBAR communication.
  • 24-hour orientation provided.
  • Navy scrubs required (not provided).
  • No local candidates within 50 miles considered.
  • Provider support includes interpretation services, lift teams, pharmacy, phlebotomy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, and unit secretary.
  • Intensivist and hospitalist coverage available.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
  • Experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units with telemetry monitoring.
  • Ability to manage and interpret dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring.
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Tech Cert Verification - National.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Experience with post-myocardial infarction (Post MI) care.
  • Pre- and post-hemodialysis management.
  • Renal failure care.
  • Blood product administration (BPA).
  • Central line and PICC line care and management.
  • Starting IVs and following heparin protocols.
  • Management of cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration.
  • Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac).
  • Use of external CPAP/BIPAP and high flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
  • Tracheostomy management.
  • Care of ventilated patients with a required 1:3 patient ratio including trach and ventilator management.
