Job Description

• Required: Chemotherapy Certification
• Must be able to float to Medical-Surgical units
• Accepts first-time travelers
• Average census: 8 patients
• Patient ratio: 1:4
• Patient age group: Adults to Geriatrics
• Patient diagnoses include medical/surgical patients requiring telemetry and chemotherapy

Shift Details

• Telemetry Nurse - Nights
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend

• Tele Oncology
• Telemetry monitoring
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Feeding tube care and management
• Pre/Post hemodialysis management
• Renal failure care
• Accessing ports
• Blood product administration
• Central line care/management
• Monitoring chemotherapy and chemotherapy administration
• Peripheral line care/management
• PICC line management
• Starting IVs
• Heparin protocols
• Managing cardiac drips (no titration)
• Managing vasoactive drips (no titration)
• PCA management

Required Certifications

• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
• AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)
• National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification
• Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate)
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Trauma Care After Resuscitation (T-CAR) certification
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate)
• Advanced EKG competency, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience in Tele Oncology nursing
• Proficient in renal failure care
• Skilled in central line care and management
• Experience monitoring chemotherapy and chemotherapy administration
• PICC line management expertise
• Knowledge and application of heparin protocols
• Ability to manage cardiac drips without titration
• Proficient in PCA management
