Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Preferred experience with Impella and NxStage devices due to patient population needs.
• Patient ratio typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3.
• Weekend shifts required: 4 weekends per 4-week schedule.
• No call required.
• Floating required: may float to all ICUs, Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and occasionally to Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units with 1:4 patient ratios.
• Nurses responsible for lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts.
• Equipment used includes: Alaris IV Pumps, CADD PCA pumps, Servo I ventilators, Fresenius CRRT Dialysis machines, Edwards Lifesciences cardiac monitors, Medtronic EVD management systems, Arctic Sun TMS, GE monitors, Hill Rom beds, Pyxis medication stations, and Veratron bladder scanners.
• Care for COVID-19 and isolation patients expected; know your N95 mask size.
• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Schedule & Work Environment

• 1:2 patient ratio, sometimes 1:3.
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule.
• Floating to multiple units including ICU, ED, PACU, and occasionally MS/PCU.
• No on-call duties.

Additional Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
• Drug screening within 30 days of start.
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per current guidelines
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination (required Oct 1 – March 31)
• Competency exams required annually, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency.
• Must comply with employee appearance policy and other facility-specific policies.

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
• Floating may include care in ED and PACU for ICU patients.
• CPI certification can be completed onsite if not currently held.
• Candidates must be prepared to work with advanced ICU equipment and care for complex patients.
