Job Description

• Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
• Required years of experience: 2 years
• First-time travelers accepted: Yes
• Weekend shifts required: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
• Floating: Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities
• On-call: Not required
• Block schedule accommodation: Not available
• Local candidates: Not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
• Pending license accepted: Yes
• Return-to-Office restrictions: No more than 7 days
• Guaranteed hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Required Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (unit-specific)
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI, MAB) — verify with unit specifics

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience in Medical-Surgical (MS) and Telemetry units
• Cardiac Telemetry experience
• Telemetry monitoring experience
• Management and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Post cardiac angiogram care
• Post myocardial infarction (MI) care
• Pre- and post-cardiac catheterization (cath) care
• Pre- and post-cardiac surgery care
• IV insulin protocol management
• Pre- and post-hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Central line care and management
• PICC line management
• Starting IVs and managing heparin protocols

Required Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri
• Pending licenses accepted with approval

Health and Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be valid throughout assignment
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tdap (or Td booster if Tdap on file)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
• Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
• Fit mask testing (N95) annually, facial hair must allow proper fit
• Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific searches as required
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, and unit-specific skills checklists

Additional Information

• Floating between units and departments may be required
• Must complete facility-specific orientation and training modules prior to start
• References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
• Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and uploaded prior to start
• Facility uses EPIC electronic charting system
• Facility is a tertiary care hospital with 456 staffed beds, recognized as a 5-time Magnet Award recipient and Level 1 Trauma center
