Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) with pediatric experience. This is a travel contract position with rotating weekday shifts and weekend on-call shifts.
Schedule
- Weekday shifts rotate between approximately 7:30 AM to 5 PM (various start/end times)
- Weekend on-call shift: 7 AM Saturday to 7 PM Sunday (36 hours), rotating every 2 weekends per month
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week
- No floating required
- Blocked schedule approval depends on staffing
Patient Ratios & Census
- Pediatric patients: 1:1 ratio
- Adult patients: 2:1 ratio
- Average daily census: 26 patients (7 rooms and 7 beds)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in West Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse (RN) experience
- Minimum 1 year of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) RN experience, with PACU experience within the last year
- Pediatric PACU experience required
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Licensure
- Must have a valid West Virginia RN license or Compact RN license in hand to start
- Can submit application with pending license but must have license before starting
Special Requirements
- Must have pediatric experience
- Weekend on-call shifts required (rotating every 2 weekends/month)
- Must comply with a 100-mile radius rule for travel (75-99 miles require facility approval)
Orientation
- Orientation occurs every other week on Thursday
- Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) and includes Cerner Infusion Management training
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medically exempt with documentation
- COVID-19 vaccination not required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, stating candidate is in good health and able to perform job duties
- Drug screen within 30 days of start, including standard panel (amphetamines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
- Annual fit mask testing required (N95) or accommodation with PAPR if needed
- Tdap vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted with approval)
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Background check within 30 days of start (7-year criminal history, sex offender search, etc.)
- Pass/fail testing for EKG, medication calculation, and blood administration required for nursing candidates

- Current RN license verification (primary source verification within 30 days)
- Specialty-specific skills checklist
- Minimum 2 manager/charge nurse references within past 2 years (1 reference required for this job)
- Certification verifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS)
- Completed background checks and health documents as listed above
Additional Notes
- Permanent employees cannot return as travelers for 2 years after last permanent day worked at this facility
- No floating required
