Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - New York

Location: Romulus, New York
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Shift:

• 2 shifts of 12 hours (9 AM - 9 PM)
• 2 shifts of 8 hours (9 AM - 5 PM)

Job Description

Provide direct nursing care to incarcerated individuals, including:

• Coordinating and delivering nursing care
• Clinical supervision and training of Graduate Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and direct care staff
• Conducting health assessments and developing nursing care plans
• Diagnosing and treating responses to health problems through nursing services such as case-finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive/restorative care
• Consulting with treatment teams before administering treatments and nursing procedures
• Participating as a member of interdisciplinary healthcare teams and health-related committees

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State
• Minimum of 1 year of correctional nursing experience, with correctional experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Background and Screening Requirements

• Criminal background checks including SS Trace, County searches, Nationwide, Sex Offender registry, and education verification
• Fingerprinting required onsite on the first day of orientation; new fingerprints required if there is a gap of 6 months or more between assignments
• 5-year criminal background check within 6 months of start
• New York State Criminal History Form (time sensitive; must be completed before starting)

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD)
• Annual TB questionnaire completion
• Vaccination documentation or titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (vaccination, titers, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Drug testing: 9-panel within 1 year of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (2025-26)
• COVID-19 vaccine booster preferred but not required

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references required
• Candidate must be patient with the background clearance process due to potential delays
