Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45–7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care for adult and geriatric patients in a MedSurg/Renal unit.
  • Patient diagnoses include AKI, CKD, ESRD, diabetes, COVID-19 positive, COPD exacerbations, wound infections, PVD/PAD, GI bleeds, cotted AV fistulas, cellulitis, and general medical/surgical conditions.
  • Care involves patients requiring dialysis and general surgical procedures such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, wound debridements, central line and dialysis access placements, and amputations.
  • Use of special equipment includes remote telemetry monitoring, wound vacs, Pyxis medication system, and electronic health records (EPIC).
  • Float requirement applies; agency staff are prioritized first for float assignments.
  • Nurses may be assigned to an Emergency Team during events, requiring them to stay onsite or be part of relief efforts as directed by unit management.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Acute Care experience
  • Nephrology experience
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travel nurses are welcome.
  • Patient care involves use of remote telemetry monitoring technology.
  • Emergency team participation is mandatory if assigned during emergency events.
  • Candidates must be comfortable with potential extended onsite presence during emergencies.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic acute care setting with a focus on renal and medical-surgical nursing for adult and geriatric populations.
