Medical Lab Scientist (Travel/Contract)
Location: Burns, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Generalist Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
- Shift: 7 days on / 7 days off
- Night shift hours vary:
- Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 3 PM – 12 AM (12-hour shifts)
- Sunday: 12 PM – 12 AM (12-hour shift)
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 3 PM – 10 PM (10-hour shifts)
- Weekend work required
- Critical access hospital with 25 staffed beds
- Trauma Level 4 facility
Required Qualifications
- Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) with at least 1 year of experience within the last year
- BLS certification required
- National certification required: ASCP or AMT
- Undergraduate degree required
Experience
- No explicit minimum years of experience stated; first-time travelers accepted if comfortable working alone at night
- Prior travel experience not required
Clinical Responsibilities
- Perform testing in the following disciplines:
- Chemistry
- Hematology
- Coagulation
- Urinalysis
- Immunology/Serology
- Blood Bank / Transfusion Services
- No floating outside scope of practice
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year county and nationwide searches
- Sex offender registry
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (updated annually and required within 14 days of start)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (with specific protocols for past positives)
- Immunization or titer proof for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
- 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination required
- COVID-19 vaccination card required per Oregon state rules; religious or medical exemptions require facility-specific forms and approval
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, HIPAA access guidelines, compliance and privacy attestation, and exemption forms if applicable
Additional Information
- No on-call responsibilities
- No floating to other departments
- Preferred to have return-to-office (RTO) days during 7 days off
- Parking is free
- Scrub color is flexible
References
- 2 professional references required for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles (within 2 years of start)
- 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles
- Not required for non-clinical roles
