Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Oncology Unit
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in a medical oncology unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with solid tumor cancers (breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, esophageal cancers, and patients receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy).
- Staffing ratios goal: 1:4 (can be 1:5).
- Variable weekends based on unit needs.
- No set/blocked scheduling; rotating 12-hour day/night shifts with schedule reassessed every 4 weeks.
- Floating to other MedSurg Oncology units required.
- Orientation: 1 week Mon-Fri dayshift + 36 hours on-unit orientation with preceptor.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Oncology experience preferred but not required.
- Prior travel experience is preferred, but not mandatory.

- Adults and geriatrics.

Skills & Competencies
- Telemetry interpretation and monitoring required.
- Computerized charting experience with EPIC.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam within 1 year of start and updated annually.
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams required.
Certifications Preferred
- ONS Chemo certification preferred.
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio required.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting required prior to start.
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
Additional Requirements
- 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership).
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
Work Environment & Scheduling
- Rotating 12-hour day/night shifts.
- Self-scheduling requests accepted but final schedule balanced by department.
- Heavy focus on infection prevention and patient fall protocols.
- Patients may have medical-surgical issues in addition to oncology care.
This position is ideal for RNs with solid med-surg or telemetry experience who are interested in oncology and comfortable with rotating shifts and floating within oncology units. Prior oncology experience and travel experience are preferred but not mandatory.
