Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide hospice nursing care with 2 years of nursing experience required, including at least 1 year of recent hospice field experience.
  • Territory includes Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Raleigh with 4-5 patient visits per day.
  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. No call and no weekends.
  • First-time travelers are welcome. Local candidates within a 75-mile radius accepted.
  • Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted.

Required Qualifications

  • Current North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only).
  • Flu vaccine required annually (no exemptions).

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
  • At least 1 year of recent hospice nursing experience.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.

Orientation & Training

  • Bi-weekly orientation provided.
  • Any scrub color allowed.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, and international searches if applicable.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests).
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Flu vaccine (mandatory, no exemptions)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers (no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Polio vaccine or signed attestation
  • Fingerprinting: North Carolina SBI fingerprint results required within 30 days of start (allowed to pend if proof of completion provided).
  • Two professional references required from employment within the last 12 months, with at least one supervisor reference.
  • Employment application and skills checklist must be completed and updated annually.
  • Completion of facility-specific online modules prior to orientation.
  • Candidate must set up a facility guest account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file.
  • No call or weekend shifts required.
  • Local candidates accepted at a reduced rate.
  • Orientation includes competency exams and may include crisis prevention training.
