Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Operating Room
- Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) from 06:45 to 19:15
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet designated
- Total Staffed Beds: 562
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Provided
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience (higher years of experience confirmed)
- First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)
- Must have weekend availability (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- General OR and Level I Trauma experience required
- Experience with Cerner preferred
- Required case experience across multiple surgical specialties:
- Bariatric: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy (partial/total), Whipple
- Neurology: Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures
- Plastic Surgery: Free Flap - Microvascular
- Transplant: Organ donation
- Urology: Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy
- Trauma: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor Vehicle Accidents (multiple injuries)
- Emergency management skills: Code response, Fire safety, Latex allergy management, Malignant Hyperthermia
- Equipment experience: Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
- Professional knowledge: Administration of blood products, Infection control, Radiation safety, Specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure, Urinary bladder catheterization
Licensure & Certifications
- Must have an active Illinois RN license or be in the application process
- BLS required
- CNOR and CST preferred
- ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty (AHA or RQI acceptable)
Additional Requirements
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility (locals not accepted)
- On-call required approximately 1 time per week (though frequency may be low)
- No block scheduling accommodations
- Floating within scope of practice is rare but possible
- All requested time off must be approved by manager
- Background checks, drug screening, physical exam, immunizations, and other health documents required per facility policy
- References and competency exams required for clinical candidates
