Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Correctional) - Illinois, Chicago
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg, Correctional)
- Job Title: Correctional RN
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Location: Chicago, Illinois
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Call Requirements: None
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Floating: Mandatory float within scope as required by facility
- Local Candidates: Accepted and preferred (must live within 75 miles)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing (Correctional experience preferred)
- Certifications Required: Basic Life Support (BLS)
- License: Valid Registered Nurse license for Illinois
Work Environment
- Correctional facility setting
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Parking: Free, first come first serve
Scheduling & Time Off
- Request Time Off (RTO) allowed up to 5 days max, no more than 2 consecutive days
- No RTO on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card
- Background Check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams as required (to be completed within 12 months of start)
- Facility-specific forms and rules of behavior must be completed prior to start, including PREA clearance (time sensitive)
Additional Notes
- No pending licenses accepted
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- Candidates must be prepared to float as needed within the facility
- Local candidates preferred but travel nurses are welcome
