Job Opportunity: Oncology - Pediatric Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Orange, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Neuro Oncology Care Manager
- Specialty: Pediatric Oncology with focus on Neuro Oncology patients
- Patient Age Group: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents
- Average Daily Census: 20 - 22 patients
- Role: Patient Care Manager supporting Neuro Oncology patients
- Responsibilities:
- Develop and customize patient roadmaps in a multidisciplinary team
- Coordinate follow-up appointments, labs, scans, referrals, authorizations, and DME ordering/coordination
- Care coordination, transition planning, and needs assessment
- Assess patients, implement physician orders, treatment plans, medical procedures
- Record keeping and monitoring/evaluating patient care processes and outcomes
- Float coverage required to support colleagues
Note: This role does not administer chemotherapy but requires knowledge of chemotherapy and its interactions.
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Case Manager experience
- Experience with Oncology and Pediatrics (PEDS)
- Acute care experience required
- Oncology background mandatory
- Experience with Neuro Oncology patients required
- Prior travel experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (1st time travelers: NO)
Certifications Required
- Required:
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or PEARS
- Preferred:
- CPHON (Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse)
- Additional certifications commonly required or recommended for pediatric RNs in this setting:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Chemotherapy knowledge certification (e.g., APHON acceptable)
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and national databases
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant drug screens NOT accepted)
- Immunizations and health documents:
- Tdap vaccine required (TD or Dtap NOT acceptable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 60 days of start (IGRA or 2-step PPD acceptable)
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination documentation
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Mask fit testing required prior to start for certain units
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (Aya standard)
- Eye exam and color blind exam required (in-person, not online)
- Orientation modules and facility-specific onboarding documents must be completed prior to starting assignment
- References: 2 supervisor references required (charge RN or floor supervisor acceptable)
- Work history verification: Minimum 2 previous employers, up to 7 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
- Must be able to float and cover other colleagues as needed
- Must comply with facility dress code and fingernail hygiene policy (no artificial nails, natural nails maintained at ≤ ¼ inch)
- Must complete facility-specific orientation, safety, and conduct acknowledgments
- COVID-19 vaccines preferred but not required; religious and medical exemptions available with proper documentation
- Modules and onboarding materials will be assigned and must be completed by specified deadlines before starting on the floor
This position is ideal for experienced pediatric oncology nurses with case management skills and a strong background in neuro oncology, who have prior travel experience and are ready for a 13-week travel assignment in California.
