Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical

Location: Columbia, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Work Environment

• 42-bed unit
• Every Other Weekend (EOW) schedule
• Floating required
• Work required on 50% of holidays
• Team nursing model: nurse/tech teams managing 7 patients
• Nurse responsible for assessments and medications
• Techs handle lab draws, ambulation assistance, hourly rounding
• Nurse navigator assists with admissions and discharges
• Medication nurse present in the morning
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day shift: 1:5-6
  • Night shift: 1:6

Experience & Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
• Minimum 1 year of experience required in specialty
• First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification preferred

Physical & Work Demands

• Active role requiring ambulating, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs
• Routine contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses
• Facility operates 24/7, 365 days/year
• Rotating shifts, holiday work, and work during inclement weather required
• Must be able to:

  1. Work full term at assigned location
  2. Work substantial time of assigned shift
  3. Take call
  4. Work assigned weekends
  5. Work at least 50% of holidays during contract

Certifications & Licensure

• Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC Provider card
  • Missouri RN license with primary source verification within 60 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 60 days of start
• Preferred/Recommended:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC Provider card
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit or specialty (e.g., TNCC for ER RNs starting 11/5/2024)

Background & Compliance Requirements

• 7-year background check required within 60 days of start
• Federal and state exclusion screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) within 60 days
• Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or Missouri Caregiver search required within 60 days; cannot start with both pending
• Drug screening: Negative 7-panel drug test within 60 days of start
• Photo ID and proof of eligibility to work required
• Employment application and professional references required
• Skills checklist updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, initiated within 48 hours of signing
• Fit mask test valid within 1 year (3M 1870+, 1860R, 1860S, 9205)
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or approved exemptions:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) – positive titer or 2 vaccines
  • Hepatitis B series or positive/reactive titer (declinations not accepted for new candidates after 7/1/2023)
  • Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season Oct 1 - Mar 31)
• Drug testing: Negative 7-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
