Job Opportunity: Speech Language Pathologist (Travel/Contract)
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana

Job Description
- May be assigned to an "Emergency Team" during emergency events, requiring you to stay at the facility until the event passes or be part of the relief team.
- Must be comfortable with emergency assignments as directed by the unit manager.
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM.
- Unit accepts first-time travelers.
Requirements
Licensure & Certification
- Certification of Competency - Speech Language Pathology (ASHA).
- Active Louisiana Speech Language Pathology license (LA license processing takes 3-4 weeks).
- Preferred: Certification in Modified Barium Swallow Study.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required.
Required Documents & Compliance
Identification
- Current/valid Driver’s License or State ID (color copy required).
Background Checks (must be current and updated as required)
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
- Sex Offender Search within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
- Education verification for highest level of education (if applicable).
Certifications (must be current or renewed prior to start)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - check unit description if required.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment; confirm with program management if unclear.
Health & Immunizations
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, indicating good health.
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Tdap vaccine required for certain departments (ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30).
Drug Testing
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no instant screenings).
Other Requirements
- Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months.
- Competency exam specific to specialty, completed within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80%.
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Employment application/resume required with 7 years of employment history and explanations for gaps.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to comply with emergency preparedness protocols, especially during hurricane season (June 1 - Nov 30).
- Fit mask testing may be required; can be completed onsite if necessary.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit assignment.
This position is ideal for Speech Language Pathologists with at least 2 years of experience who are flexible and comfortable working in a dynamic hospital environment with potential emergency response duties.
