Experience & Certifications
- Years of Experience Required: 3 years preferred (minimum 2 years acceptable)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Unit & Patient Population
- High-risk Level 3 Perinatal center; approximately 70% of patients are complex high risk
- Level 4 NICU (regional center)
- Approximately 150 births per month
- Services include antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care
- 2 Operating Rooms on unit for C-sections, BTLs, PP D&Cs
- Second L&D RN acts as "baby catcher" for well, non-compromised babies

Compliance & Requirements
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 45 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, State-specific WA WATCH search
- Education Verification: Required (diploma/transcripts acceptable)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency (80% minimum in dosage calculations)
- Color Blind Testing
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency (may be required depending on unit)
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Fit mask test within 9-12 months (specific mask types required)
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination during flu season
- COVID vaccination or declination documentation
- 10-panel drug screen (required by agency, not facility)
- Facility Specific Training:
- EPIC/Alaris integration video and attestation
- Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Training (required for L&D RNs)
- Documentation:
- Photo for badge (DMV style, no selfies)
- Various agreements and checklists prior to start
- WA License Complaint Clearance (for WA state license holders)
- Flu documentation and exemption if applicable
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed hours: In low census, providers may be called off without charge or placed on-call for up to 4 hours in a 2-week cycle.
- Ambulatory or surgical services closed on weekends/holidays may not schedule travelers during those times.
- Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in Washington.
- Performance evaluation requested at end of assignment (Montlake location only).
This position is ideal for experienced L&D nurses comfortable with high-risk obstetrics and newborn care, seeking a travel contract in a Magnet teaching hospital with strong support and comprehensive compliance requirements.
