Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Redlands, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Requirements & Responsibilities

• Patient Ratio: 1:3 with trachs and ventilator management required

• Cardiac Drip Management: Non-titrated management of Amiodarone, Milrinone, Lasix, Cardizem (titrated), Dopamine, and Dobutamine required

• Insulin: 3:1 preferred but not required

• Certifications Required:

  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • ACLS (AHA only)
  • BLS (AHA only)

• Experience:

  • MS/Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
  • Management and interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Telemetry monitoring on the unit
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Post MI care
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
  • Renal failure care
  • Accessing and managing ports, central lines, peripheral lines, PICC lines
  • Starting IVs
  • Heparin protocols
  • Managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • External CPAP/BIPAP and High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Interpretation of ABGs
  • Oxygen delivery methods including nasal cannula and face masks
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Tracheostomy management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care and wound vac management

• Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Post cardiac angiogram care
  • IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
  • Titration of cardiac drips
  • Pre/Post neurosurgery care

• Additional Notes:

  • Meditech Expanse experience preferred
  • Will consider first-time travelers with PCU experience and 1:3-4 ratios
  • Weekend requirement: minimum 2 weekends per month (may be more)
  • Float within areas of competency (med/surg, telemetry, observation)
  • Use of Omnicell medication system
  • SBAR communication required
  • 24-hour orientation provided
  • Navy scrubs required (not provided)
  • No local candidates within 50 miles

Support & Team

• Provider support includes: Interpretation Services, Lift Teams, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Rapid Response Teams, Respiratory Services, Social Services, Unit Secretary
• Intensivist and Hospitalist provider coverage

Experience Requirements

• Specialty Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; based on complexity and skills required, expect at least 1-2 years in relevant telemetry/PCU/stepdown nursing
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers with PCU experience are considered

Required Certifications & Compliance

• NIH Stroke Certification (required for telemetry, ICU, ED, observation, PACU, surgery prep)
• ACLS (AHA only; RQI not accepted)
• BLS (AHA only; RQI not accepted)
• State Nursing License (primary source verification required within 30 days of contract start)
• Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable
• Drug screening (10 panel including THC) within 30 days of start
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • COVID vaccination + 1 booster or approved exemption
  • Flu vaccine or declination (mask required if declined)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as required
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B titers or vaccination documentation
• Fit mask testing prior to start
• Physical exam within last 12 months
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
• Signed acknowledgments for safety manual, abuse reporting, confidentiality, code of conduct, drug-free workplace, and other facility-specific policies
