Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - OR Tech First Assist

Location: Clinton, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Schedule: 4x10 hour shifts, 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM
• Weekend Requirement: 3-5 weekend days within a 6-week period
• Call Requirement: 4-6 weekday call shifts required
• Start Date: ASAP

Experience & Requirements

• Specialty: Surgical Services (OR Tech First Assist)
• Years of Experience Required: 2 years
• Prior Travel Experience: Required (must have completed at least 1 prior travel contract or equivalent)
• Skills: Strong basic assisting technique skills required

Certifications & Licenses

• NBSTSA certification required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA or ARC)
• State License verification required prior to start
• Additional certifications may be required based on unit description (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Background & Compliance

• Criminal background check within 90 days of start, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and monthly thereafter
• Education verification for highest degree required by position
• Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), updated annually
• Physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
• Immunizations and health documentation required:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframe
  • Documentation of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) and Varicella immunity or vaccination
  • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season

Competencies & Testing

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 3 years of start (minimum 80% score)
• Color blind testing required (online or in-person)
• Competency exam required within 3 years of start (minimum 80% score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for applicable specialties (RN only) with specific scoring and remediation requirements

Documentation & Onboarding

• Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, licenses, and contact information
• Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
• Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually
• Facility-specific modules (SITELS) must be completed before hire date
• Photo for badge with specific requirements (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)

Additional Notes

• Valid driver's license required if driving is an essential job function
• Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual required
• Some certifications and requirements may vary based on unit or facility specifics
