Job Opportunity: PICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Day/Night rotating or straight nights
- Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of independent PICU nursing experience in a 20-bed PICU or larger
- First-time travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekends for a 13-week assignment; more weekends required for longer assignments
- Floating: Clinician will float within scope to meet facility needs; orientation includes one shift in the CICU
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- Pending License: Accepted (WA Compact License accepted)
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- On-call: Not required but available for pick-up
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by American Heart Association
Requirements / Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience working with Level I Trauma patients
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Orientation and Scheduling Notes
- No Return to Office (RTO) during first 2 weeks due to orientation
- Travelers rotate on a 6-week schedule based on start date
- Scheduling weeks run Monday through Sunday
- Night shift travelers may be scheduled for the night before their RTO starts
- Travelers do not self-schedule; schedules are generated by facility schedulers
- Travelers are scheduled for 6 weekends during a 13-week assignment

- Scrub color: Any color or T-shirt top, must be age-appropriate and kid-friendly
Compliance and Screening Requirements
- Background check including 7-year criminal history and multiple county/state/national searches
- Drug screening: 12-panel drug test within 1 year of start
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Fit test for respirator use required within 12 months prior to assignment end; fit testing on-site not allowed
- Immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- TB screening: Qgold/Tspot or 2 PPDs with specific timing requirements
- Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct-March)
- Respiratory protection medical clearance required annually for respirator users
- COVID vaccine strongly recommended but not required
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (pediatric focus) required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for PICU nurses; passing score 80% with remediation process available
- Skills checklists required, including pediatric skills checklist
- Math test administered onsite; remediation allowed if failed
- Completion of facility-specific modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours) including Epic test-out modules for inpatient nurses
Additional Notes
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing; must be on a blue background with no hats or headwear
- Travelers may have potential for precepting opportunities
- Parking available with variable costs; public transportation encouraged
- Meal waiver agreement available but not required unless candidate opts to waive second meal period
