Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit

Job Description

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Step Down Unit)
• Required Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years in Critical Care Stepdown
  • Minimum 2 years post-cath lab experience
• Schedule: Every Other Week (EOW) & Every Other Holiday (EOH) with no blocked scheduling
• Locals accepted at a lower rate

Required Certifications & Competencies

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA required
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Preferred but not required for Step Down
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Not required for Step Down
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Not required for Step Down
• Stroke Education:

  • 8 hours annually (NIH Stroke Scale training may count) for CCU/Med-Surg/ED RNs
  • 2 hours annually for Cath Lab RNs
• NIH Stroke Scale Training: Required for CCU, Med/Surg, ED, Cath Lab RNs
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
• Competency Exam: Required as applicable to specialty
• Pass/Fail Telemetry Testing:

  • Minimum 80% on a 15-question telemetry assessment on first day of orientation for CCU, Med/Surg, ED, Cath Lab, and Step Down units if telemetry interpretation is required
  • Remediation provided if initial test is failed
• State License Verification: Primary source verification prior to start and upon expiration
• NURSYS Verification: Required prior to start

Background & Documentation Requirements

• Unexpired government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Background Check within 1 year covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start
• Physical Exam within 12 months, signed by licensed provider confirming ability to perform job duties
• Fit Mask Test within 12 months, updated annually (specific mask types required)
• Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire annually, with negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
• Immunizations and Titers:

  • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years or declination
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella immunity (2 MMR vaccines or serologic titers)
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
  • Varicella immunity (2 vaccines, positive titer, or physician-documented history)
  • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
  • COVID vaccine records or declination
• Drug Testing: 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start (Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Opiates, Cocaine, Methadone)

Facility-Specific Requirements

• Review and sign Code of Conduct, Patient Abuse Reporting, Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement
• Orientation Packet and Acknowledgement
• Automated Dispensing Cabinet Security training for Pyxis access
• Annual Tuberculosis Screening Questionnaire

• 2 Professional References within 3 years of hire
• Skills Checklist required
• New York State Nurse Aide Registry verification required
• New York State Medicaid Exclusion List check required

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac rhythm proficiency are essential as the facility does not employ telemetry technicians; nurses must independently interpret telemetry strips.
