Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Clarksburg, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (with possible extension)
Shift Schedule: 3x12 hour day shifts, weekdays, every other weekend
Patient Population: Adults (Behavioral Health/Psych)

Job Description

• Fill in for shifts not covered by regular staff; blocked schedule requests are not accommodated.
• Limit holiday time-off requests to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays.
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Adolescent unit: 1:8
  • Adult/Forensic units: 1:15-20 depending on unit
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Avatar
• Scrubs provided: Navy or Royal Blue

Required Qualifications

• License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for West Virginia
• Experience: Minimum 1+ year of experience in Behavioral Health nursing
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required
• Certifications:

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Blue Card required for Behavioral Health RNs; training available during orientation if not already certified
  • First Aid (can be obtained during orientation)

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

• Fingerprinting must be completed in West Virginia at least 7-10 business days prior to start; results take 5-7 days and are mandatory before starting.
• Background checks including a 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and education verification required.
• Drug screening: 9-panel drug test within the last 12 months (instant acceptable).
• Health documents required:

  • Physical exam (initial and annual)
  • Immunizations and titers for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, and Flu vaccination (or approved exemptions).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
• Flu vaccination is mandatory for the 2025-26 season unless a medical or religious exemption is approved by the facility.
• Completion of Paycom & Relias onboarding modules prior to in-person orientation (8-20 hours). Failure to complete may result in being sent home or cancellation.
• Submission of:

  • Candidate profile/work history
  • Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
  • Minimum 3 professional references within the past 2 years
  • RN license verification (NURSYS verification required)
  • Employment application (unbranded Aya application if applicable)
• Strict attendance policy: Absences of 3+ consecutive days require doctor's verification and medical clearance before return.

Additional Notes

• Traveler must be willing and able to arrive early in West Virginia to complete fingerprinting and other onboarding steps.
• Block scheduling is not allowed; flexibility in shift coverage is required.
• Facility is strict on call-outs due to previous staffing challenges.
