Job Summary
Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the Operating Room. Works under the supervision of the surgeon. Facilitates a safe, effective, and orderly operating room to maximize patient safety. Floating between departments and/or local locations within 20 miles is required.
Essential Duties
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills related to surgical procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of equipment, procedures, and supplies.
- Adhere to proper surgical aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
- Perform instrument counts before and during procedures, maintaining accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Prepare and secure all supplies and instruments required for surgery.
- Ensure preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the OR.
- Prepare patient skin for surgical treatment.
- Position and reposition patients during surgery.
- Assist in monitoring patients during surgery.
- Provide supportive care during the pre-operative phase.
- Perform scrub functions.
- Ensure correct handling and routing of specimens.
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy/physiology and intraoperative medications.
- Stay current with developments in the field through seminars, workshops, and publications.
- Follow all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist, including experience within the last year.
- High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Surgical Technician training program.
- Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Orthopedics, ENT, and/or Vascular surgery is a plus.
- Experience with Epic software preferred but not required; training available on-site.
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery certification through NCCT.

- Must be willing to float between departments and local locations within a 20-mile radius.
