Job Opportunity: Histology Technician

Location: Salinas, California

Contract Length: Approximately 13 weeks (90 days ≈ 13 weeks)

Job Description

• Perform routine staining and coverslipping of tissue slides to ensure quality for diagnosis, including STATS, special stains, recuts, PAPS, bone marrows, FNAS, and cytology.
• Embed and cut tissue according to histology procedures for patient diagnosis.
• Operate, verify, and maintain instruments to minimize downtime and ensure proper function.
• Perform and document quality control procedures and corrective actions to ensure accurate test results.
• Process and label specimens and slides; file slides, blocks, and tissue specimens.
• Prepare cytology specimens for pathologist examination.
• Dispose of tissue specimens and hazardous waste safely.
• Prepare specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
• Maintain equipment and supplies; troubleshoot special problems or situations.
• Write procedures or policies as requested.
• Follow hospital safety standards and report unsafe conditions.
• Adhere to hospital policies regarding guest relations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Manual dexterity and ability to work with sharp instruments and delicate specimens.
• Excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with patients, public, co-workers, and medical staff.
• Organizational and management skills preferred.
• Ability to remain calm during heavy workload periods.
• Knowledge of chemistry and immunology techniques for staining and tissue processing.
• Ability to concentrate for long periods during procedures and equipment setup.
