Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Intensive Care

Location: Brooklyn, New York

Job Summary

• Provide direct patient care using the nursing process.
• Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating care for assigned patients.
• Deliver care based on established nursing standards and hospital policies.
• Diagnose and treat human responses to health problems through case finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive care.
• Supervise care provided by LPNs, RNs on permit, nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff.

Responsibilities

• Assess immediate and ongoing care needs of patients and their significant others.
• Develop comprehensive care plans addressing physical, psychosocial, spiritual, teaching, and discharge needs.
• Provide direct patient care aligned with assessed needs and medical regimens.
• Oversee all aspects of patient care and supervise other nursing personnel within scope of practice.
• Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate patient responses to illness and treatments.
• Ensure timely reassessment and follow-up on significant changes in patient condition or diagnosis.
• Coordinate nursing interventions with the multidisciplinary team to ensure consistent care.
• Integrate age-specific care needs (e.g., pediatrics, geriatrics) into care plans.
• Accept accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes based on clinical judgment.
• Participate in quality improvement activities related to patient care and nursing standards.
• Communicate effectively and manage stressful situations professionally.

Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in orientation of nursing staff.
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities as delegated.
• Assist with patient coverage and work on other units as assigned.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
• Serve as a clinical resource for student nurses.
• Engage in meetings, committees, educational programs, research, and pilot projects.
• Commit to continuing professional growth and education, including pursuing advanced degrees and certifications.
• Participate in professional and community organizations.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with ICU experience within the last year.
• Experience in trauma care.
• Proficient in operating Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) machines.
• Skilled in ventilator and tracheostomy tube care.
• Experienced with gastrostomy tube care.
• Competent in medication titration.
• Experienced in arterial line (A-line) management.
• Current certifications in:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Stroke certification
  • Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCAR)
