Nuclear Medicine Technologist (Nuc Med Tech - Rad PET/CT)
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Job Description
- Perform diagnostic studies and radiopharmaceutical therapeutic administration using Nuclear Medicine and/or PET/CT equipment.
- Acquire and process patient exams following accrediting bodies, manufacturer guidelines, and department protocols.
- Review cases with radiologists as appropriate.
- Review labs, patient history, and radiology orders for completeness, accuracy, and medical necessity.
- Administer IV radiopharmaceuticals via existing IV line or by performing veni-puncture and placing IV lines.
- Screen patients for pregnancy and perform pregnancy testing if applicable.
- Critique imaging quality by assessing positioning, technical factors, and alignment.
- Transfer and verify image data in PACS and provide necessary medical history for radiologist interpretation.
- Use RIS for scheduling, billing, and coding procedures.
- Maintain imaging equipment, supply inventories, and workplace orderliness.
- Recognize and report equipment malfunctions and service needs promptly.
- Ensure patient, visitor, and environmental safety; report safety events immediately.
- Assist in instruction of students and new staff as needed.
- May perform duties of Nuc Med Lead or Imaging Coordinator in their absence.
- Assist other areas during downtimes to maintain productivity.
- May perform duties in other modalities within the department if licensed and cross-trained.
Required Skills & Experience
- Positive attitude with a willingness to assess and improve the work environment.
- Ability to multitask while coordinating patient flow and technical procedures independently.
Education Requirements
- Diploma in a related field OR
- Certificate in Radiologic Technology
Certifications & Licensure
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- IEMA
- Nuclear Medicine Tech Certification (NMTCB) OR
- ARRT (N)
