PCU Nurse Opportunity - Greenville, North Carolina

Employment Type: Long Term Contract
Contract Length: 20 weeks

Requirements

• Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Experience: Minimum 2 years in PCU nursing
• Licensure: BLS, ACLS required; North Carolina or compact license accepted
• Prior Travel Experience: Required (indicated by "Travel" in description)
• Skills & Certifications:

  • Must read and interpret EKG strips
  • Must pass EKG and Pharmacology exams during compliance process (pre-start)
  • EPIC electronic health record experience
  • Relias exams required (2 attempts max)

Patient Population & Skills Utilized

• Acute stroke management (ischemic, hemorrhagic, subarachnoid hemorrhage)
• Post neuro-surgical care (craniotomy, ventriculostomy, complex neuro-spine)
• Seizure management (epilepsy, post-ictal, pseudo-seizures)
• Neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Guillain-Barre syndrome
• Clinical skills including:

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Lumbar puncture assistance
  • Management of arterial lines, central lines, tracheotomy patients, lumbar drains
  • IV starts, peripheral and arterial blood draws
  • Administration and monitoring of intravenous drips (cardiac, insulin, heparin)
  • Cardiac monitoring

Work Environment

• Staffing ratio: 1 RN to 4 patients (pod format)
• Patient acuity comparable to ICU at smaller facilities
• Shift: 12-hour shifts, 36 or 48 hours per week
• No blocked scheduling
• All requested time off (RTO) must be approved prior to assignment confirmation

This role is ideal for experienced PCU nurses with strong neuro and critical care skills who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, intermediate care setting and have prior travel nursing experience.
