Pediatric PACU RN

Overview

Start: ASAP
Long-term assignment
Location: Norfolk, Virginia
Shift: AM
Work schedule: 2 8s and 2 10s per week
PACU start times on weekdays fluctuate between 0730-0830; Thursdays always start at 0830

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Virginia
PACU - Post Anesthesia Care (1 year of experience)
PACU - Post Anesthesia Care experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Pediatrics PACU - Post Anesthetic Care experience

Assignment Details

Orientation includes 1 day in PACU, including Stepdown
Patient population includes everything
Short procedures include EGDs, BMTTs, MRIs, T&As, and DLBs
Bigger cases include Pectus Excavatum Repair, Spinal Fusions, Cardiac Caths, EVDs, Breast, Reductions, and Ortho
Skills include arterial lines, trachs with home vents, precedex drips, chest tubes, drains, and foleys
Focus areas include airway management, Modified Aldrete Score, assessment/vitals, medication administration, and discharge teaching
Phase 1: 1:1 patient care with monitoring every 15 minutes
Phase 2: 1:1 or 1 RN to 4 patients in Stepdown with at least hourly monitoring and discharge preparation

Communication

Anesthesiologists manage medication orders, signouts, and assist with stats
Surgeons manage discharge orders and instructions, wound issues, and radiology orders
