Surgical Tech Travel Opportunity
Location: Northridge, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist (OR Tech) for a travel contract in a hospital setting with a busy operating room environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an OR Tech with trauma, ortho, and general surgery experience preferred.
- Active BLS certification.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA certificate.
Work Environment & Details
- Operating Room: 12 general OR suites, 1 cardiovascular OR (CVOR), and 1 hybrid room.
- Average caseload: Approximately 14 cases per day.
- Common case types: Orthopedics (total joints), gynecology, urology, trauma, ENT, plastics, vascular, neurology, robotics (Da Vinci). No transplant cases.
- CVOR procedures are not required unless specifically requested.
- EMR system used: Cerner Surginet.
- Call response time: 30 minutes.
- Scrub color and supplies are provided.
- No floating for techs or RNs.
- Floor-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts on unit.
- RT and pharmacy coverage available 24/7.
- Surgeon on call is not in-house 24/7; OB anesthesia is in-house 24/7 as needed.
Shift & Call Requirements
- Shifts: 8-hour shifts
- 6:45am – 3:15pm (Day)
- 2:45pm – 11:15pm (Evening)
- 10:45pm – 7:15am (Night)
- Weekend call for CSTs: Required every 4th weekend for day and evening shifts; variable for night shift.
- Weekday call for CSTs: 4-8 times per 4-week schedule, self-scheduled; call hours start at shift end until 7am next day.
- Night shift (11pm-7am) typically staffed with one RN and one tech; requires highly experienced tech comfortable working independently.
- Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor holiday in both summer and winter months.
Additional Notes
- Telemetry monitoring equipment: GE Space Labs.
- Scrubbing is required for techs; RNs preferred to scrub but not required.
- Sterile processing techs require separate certification (IAHCSMM or CBSPD), BLS, and 2 years of experience; this role is distinct from the Surgical Tech position.
