MedSurg RN Position - Marianna, Florida

Job Overview

• Location: Small community hospital near Panama City Beach and Tallahassee, FL
• Unit: MedSurg/Telemetry (28 beds, can surge to 28)
• Shift: Midshift (11am - 7pm), Friday to Friday, 8 on / 6 off schedule
• Guaranteed 72 hours every 2-week pay period
• No float required, possible call
• Floating to PCU required; without PCU experience, assignments limited to skill set
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Sat/Sun), with flexibility for more weekends
• Holidays: Travelers integrated into permanent staff holiday rotation

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Licensure & Certifications

• Florida RN license required
• BLS certification required
• ACLS & PALS preferred but not required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of MedSurg specialty experience
• Some previous travel experience required (candidates need approximately 15-18 months total experience)
• Experience with drips (insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone) not required; titration is rare and only assigned if experienced

Patient Care & Ratios

• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:6, rarely 1:7
• PCU (stepdown) ratios 1:4 when normal operations resume
• Telemetry monitored remotely in ICU; MedSurg nurses do not read/interpret strips
• Occasional use of CPAP, BiPAP, or High Flow O2; no ventilators on unit
• No IV team; PICC and Midline certified staff available for difficult IVs
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7, manages vents and respiratory treatments

Orientation & Training

• Pre-orientation packet provided
• One-day on-site orientation including computer setup, badge, charting system, admissions, discharges, medication scanning, and routine procedures
• Shadowing with charge nurse and floor nurse during orientation

Work Environment & Tools

• EMR: CPSI - Evident Thrive (user-friendly)
• IV pumps: Baxter Sigma
• Cardiac monitors: Neon Kohden
• Medication dispensing: Omnicell (pharmacy not 24/7)
• Parking: Free staff parking near ER
• Cafeteria: Open 7am - 6pm, managed by Morrison's (quality food)
• Scrub color: Navy preferred; black or gray acceptable

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse present on days, sometimes evenings; nights have a senior nurse instead
• PCTs (nurse aides) usually overstaffed (approx. 4 PCTs per 24 patients)
• ER doctor on-site 24/7 for emergencies
• Physician coverage after hours by on-call family practice, internal medicine, and surgery physicians

Additional Notes

• Clocking in/out via hospital system required; supervisors sign time cards
• Housing available nearby for approximately $200/week
• Travelers must be prepared to float to PCU unit as needed
