Labor & Delivery Nurse Travel Assignment - Arizona (Chandler)
Job Overview
- Position: Experienced Labor & Delivery (L&D) Nurse for a travel assignment
- Location: Chandler, Arizona
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit: Labor and Delivery
- Facility Type: Level II EQ (gestations 28 weeks and greater), Level 1 Trauma Center
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of L&D nursing experience
- Active Arizona nursing license or compact license
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Experience with C-sections (must confidently circulate and recover C-sections)
- Computer charting experience required, preferably Cerner EMR
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (80% passing score, max 2 attempts) prior to offer acceptance
- Pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
- COVID vaccine required or approved declination form with hospital approval
Unit Details
- Beds: 18 LDRP’s, 14 OB triage, 8 Antepartum
- Average deliveries: 8-10 per day (322-344 per month)
- Operating Rooms: 2 fully equipped OR suites for C-sections
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: Mostly 2:1 depending on acuity; Antepartum 4:1; C-sections 1:1
- Staffing aims to meet AWHONN guidelines and ratios
- EMR System: Cerner
- EFM System: Fetal Link
- Charge Nurses: 13 on unit
- Nurse Aides: None
- IV Team available if needed
- Respiratory Therapy (RT) available 24/7, including vents, CPAP, BiPAP
- Anesthesia available 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7
- OB Hospitalist in-house
Work Schedule & Orientation
- Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per schedule
- Holidays: Coverage needed for 2 of 3 major holidays
- Call/Standby: Voluntary, not required
- Floating: May float to Mother-Baby/Postpartum unit as needed
- Orientation: 1 week floor-specific orientation
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate drips such as Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate per protocol
- Care for laboring or preterm pregnant patients (28 weeks gestation and above)
- Confidently manage C-section circulation and recovery
- Patients transferred to Postpartum after delivery
- Scrub attire: Blue (scrubbing not necessary for circulating nurses)
Additional Notes
- Travelers must be comfortable with dysrhythmia content due to exam requirement
- Assignments are considered safe with staffing efforts to meet professional standards
