Unit Details

ER
Level I Trauma Center
Pediatric Certified by State
Comprehensive Stroke Center
20 beds, including 5 Trauma beds, 10 OBS beds, and hallway beds
Fast Track with 6 beds
Separate triage area with 3 triage beds

Clinical Expectations

RNs must read and interpret their own strips
Common patient types include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, SOB, and strokes-TPA
Common drips seen in level I trauma ERs
Fast paced, high acuity

Scheduling and Float

Shifts include 0700-1900, 0900-2100, 1100-2300, 1500-0300, and 1900-0700
Leadership will make the schedule
Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on department needs
Floats to OBS unit and Freestanding ER at least once a week

Additional Notes

Pass/fail exam during orientation; 90% required to pass
1 week of onboarding, plus 2 shifts at Bergan and 1 shift at UC
Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas

Pros

I worked 4South/ the people are amazing and flexible, helpful, and supportive to work with. The charges are incredibly helpful.

Cons

Poor communication between residents/ attendings l which affects what is told to nursing and communicated to nursing. This was a huge issue working here. Also the resources are low, things always out of stock on the floor, only one translator / bladder scanner per floor , things like that.
