Registered Nurse – Preop/PACU

Location: Greeley, Colorado
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM (hours may be adjusted)


Job Summary

Provide nursing care to patients in the Preoperative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting care in accordance with professional nursing standards and organizational policies. Utilize specialized knowledge and judgment to deliver quality nursing services and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patient-centered care.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and postoperative needs of patients.
  • Review patient history, physical exams, diagnostics, and lab data; report abnormal results to physicians and caregivers.
  • Develop and revise individualized plans of care, including discharge planning, based on patient needs and team input.
  • Implement care plans through direct care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities.
  • Communicate patient status effectively to ensure continuity of care.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching; adjust plans accordingly.
  • Document all nursing activities accurately and timely in patient records.
  • Participate in evidence-based practice, research activities, and shared leadership initiatives.
  • Support education, orientation, precepting, and mentoring of staff, students, and families.
  • May provide relief charge nurse duties and assist with department workflow as needed.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and stretching.
  • Ability to respond quickly to patient care needs with adequate physical agility and reaction time.
  • Must have adequate hearing, vision (including color vision), fine motor skills, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Ability to assist patients with ambulation and transfers; may lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Use of standard precautions due to exposure risk to blood and bodily fluids.
  • Effective communication skills required for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team.
  • Periodic use of computer, phone, and general office equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in PreOp/PACU - Post Anesthesia Care within the last year.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership roles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strongly preferred: Licensed RN experience specifically in PreOp/PACU.

  • Leadership skills are highly valued for this role.
  • Position may be temp-to-hire based on performance and fit.
