Crisis Intervention Specialist

Location: Bozeman, Montana
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Hours per Week: 36


Job Summary

Provide patient-centered, trauma-informed urgent and emergent behavioral health services in adult and pediatric emergency settings. Deliver brief psychosocial and substance use assessments, crisis intervention, safety planning, inpatient diversion, care coordination, and discharge planning. Work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to support patients through the continuum of care.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license in Montana with at least 1 year of recent experience
  • Master’s degree in Social Work or other comparable clinical Master’s degree program
  • Experience as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LCPC) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in Montana
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct brief psychosocial and drug/alcohol assessments
  • Perform crisis intervention and hold assessments
  • Facilitate inpatient diversion and care coordination with medical teams and families
  • Access community-based providers and manage transitions of care/discharge planning
  • Provide behavioral health consultations and evidence-based interventions
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in a high-stress environment

Physical and Cognitive Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, and pulling
  • Continuous fine finger movements and close visual acuity for data analysis and documentation
  • Cognitive ability to learn new tasks, maintain focus, and make timely decisions independently

Work Environment and Other Requirements

  • Regular and sustained attendance required, including possible work beyond 40 hours per week, weekends, after-hours shifts, and on-call duties
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, chemicals, medications, and emotionally challenging situations
  • Must live at least 90 miles away from the facility to be considered for this role
  • Facility may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances

  • This role requires strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a busy environment
  • Must complete all required education and training on time as per regulatory and facility policies
