Surgical Technologist (CST/ORT) - Travel Position
Location: Springfield, Missouri
Specialty: Cardiothoracic Operating Room (Cardio OR)

Position Details
- Role: Surgical Technologist (Surg Tech)
- Specialty: Cardiothoracic OR with open heart experience required
- Shift: Days, 4x10 hour shifts (scheduled between 0600-1900)
- Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (interpreted as 13 weeks)
- Weekend Hours: As required by facility
- Call Requirements: Rotational night, weekend, and holiday call; typically 1-2 nights per week and one weekend per month on a 4-week schedule. Extra call available if desired.
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: CORST, CST, or TSC certification required
- Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association only)
- Experience:
- Minimum 1 year Cardiothoracic Surgical Technologist experience in a hospital setting
- Open heart surgical experience required
- Preferred Experience:
- 2+ years preferred
- Experience with ECMO, Impella insertion, Robotics, CABG, Valve Replacement, VATS, Lung Resection, Aortic Aneurysm Repair
Unit Information
- Number of ORs: 4
- EMR System: Epic Optime
- Patient Population: Cardiothoracic surgical patients
Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under surgeon and circulating RN supervision
- Set up surgical cases across multiple specialties, ensuring equipment and supplies meet patient and surgeon needs
- Maintain sterile field and perform instrument, sponge, and sharp counts
- Assist OR staff according to patient safety and care policies
- Serve as a resource for new Surgical Technicians and students
- Adhere to Universal Precautions and safety standards
- Work in a fast-paced, sometimes high-stress environment
- Perform duties as assigned
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk most of the shift
- Lift/push patients on stretchers and equipment/instrument sets
- Handle contaminated instruments and equipment safely
- Must be flexible with schedules, shifts, and call requirements

- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for travel period November 1 - April 1 (no declinations accepted)
