Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Location: Corpus Christi, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Department: Respiratory Therapy
  • Unit Size: 162 beds (includes ED, IMU, ICU, med/surg, telemetry, neuro floors)
  • Respiratory Therapy Staff: 24 therapists
  • Shifts:
    • Day Shift: 1 Supervisor, 3-4 RTs
    • Night Shift: 3-4 RTs
  • Equipment Used: 840 ventilators, GE Carescape R860, V60, Vapotherm, Hamilton MR1
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Meditech

Typical Procedures and Responsibilities

  • Patient assessment
  • Administer therapies including oxygen, aerosol medication delivery, chest physiotherapy
  • Assist with bronchoscopies at bedside and in endoscopy suite
  • Assist with placement of artificial airways
  • Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation
  • Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients
  • Respond to emergent patient situations ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation
  • Serve as a clinical resource providing education to patients, families, and staff
  • Set up, operate, clean, sterilize, and store respiratory therapy equipment

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Texas
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license with Texas Medical Board
  • Minimum 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Critical care experience with adult patients
  • Ability to intubate patients and assist in bronchoscopies

Work Schedule and Additional Information

  • Rotating weekends required
  • Dress code: Pewter grey scrubs
  • Floating area includes Bay Area Medical Center RT Department
