Overview

• Location: Peoria, Illinois
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 36 per week
• Department: Surgical Acute RN
• Unit size: 63 beds (49 private, 9 observation beds)

Required Qualifications

• Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• Last four digits of SSN
• Clinician’s middle initial
• Requested time off
• Negative drug screen for all panels

Experience / Skills

• Post-op care of patients
• Critical thinking skills
• Ability to ask for help when needed
• Good bedside manner
• Team player

Unit Details

• Common patient types include post-op surgical, trauma, overflow medical, dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 4-5 on days and 5-6 on nights; may increase to 1:6 on days and 1:7 on nights if needed
• Heparin is the only common titratable/set-rate drip
• Charge nurses do not take an assignment
• PCT support is available; duties include vitals, accu checks, ADLs, turning, and ambulation
• No vents; CPAP and high flow are used
• RT manages nebs; RNs manage inhalers and may place patients on CPAP
• Some patients are on telemetry; bedside RNs do not read strips
• Travelers are first to float and float to units with the same level of experience
• If an ICU RN floats to a general unit, they take a team of 3 patients

Schedule / Logistics

• Every other weekend required
• Rotate every other holiday
• No call or standby
• Block scheduling may be considered if approved at the time of contract
• Travelers do not self-schedule
• 2 shifts with a preceptor, plus one 12-hour shift for EPIC and professional orientation with the unit educator

Additional Notes

• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Local rate adjustment applies within 50 miles
• OSF call-off policy: equivalent of 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift
• 12 non-billable orientation hours; guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Any color scrubs allowed
