Active RN license in California
2+ years of ER experience
BLS
ACLS
PALS
NIHSS
Moderate Conscious Sedation competency testing prior to start

Job Details

Unit: ER
24+ beds
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
Charge nurse present
Nurse aides: PCT
No floating
Every other weekend required
Holidays worked into the perm staff rotation
2-shift floor orientation
Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
Schedule is set by the unit as needed

Clinical Setting

Busy ER seeing about 150 patients per day
Mix of adults and pediatric patients
Acute/emergent cases
Psych holds are kept for a short time
Higher-acuity patients are transferred out
Large homeless population

Pharmacy coverage in the ER during the day

Pros

Traveler friendly for sure. I was on the TCU and they have a strong sense of teamwork. Break nurses every shift who are super helpful.

Cons

What management can’t provide, I would say the floor staff makes up for. Cost of living is higher only for lodging, I’m from Alaska and everything else was about the same. If you have a place to stay it’s a perfect gig!!
