Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Birthing Center / Mother Baby
Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Birthing Center / Mother Baby unit with:
- 6 L&D "homelike" suites with private bathrooms and showers
- 11 private postpartum rooms
- OB Emergency Department with 4 beds for unscheduled visits
- Approximately 1,050 births per year
- Around 3,000 OB Emergency Department and outpatient visits annually
- Designated Baby-Friendly birth facility with Advanced Perinatal Care Certification
- Certified National Safe Sleep Hospital with infant security system and lactation consultants
- Family-centered care approach
Work Schedule & Environment
- All shifts are 12 hours (0700-1930 and 1900-0730)
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday participation required
- Travelers are not eligible for call but may pick up open shifts
- Scrubs provided (L&D: provided; Mother Baby Unit: navy color)
- Cross-coverage between units expected
- Orientation includes 1 shift onboarding + 1 shift floor orientation with preceptor
Patient Care & Clinical Information
- Care for high-risk OB patients; NICU can accommodate babies from 25 weeks gestation
- No Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) on site, but total medical capabilities with referral options
- In-house 24/7 OB hospitalists and neonatology support (MDs and APPs)
- No triage beds; unscheduled patients seen in OB Emergency Department
- No IV team; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
- Fetal Heart Monitoring system: Centricity FHM
- Electronic Medical Record: EPIC
- Nurse aides/OB techs assist with circulation and recovery
Patient Ratios
- Labor & Delivery: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Mother Baby: 1 nurse to 4 couplets
Required Certifications & Experience
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Verification
- Experience:
- Labor & Delivery: 2 years preferred
- Mother Baby: 1 year acceptable
- C-section experience required; must be able to circulate and recover
- First-time travelers are acceptable (prior travel experience NOT required)
Additional Notes
- Floor-specific orientation provided
- Telemetry available and monitored on unit
- No ventilators on unit
- Charge nurse available 24/7 and takes assignments
- Baby-Friendly and advanced perinatal care certifications highlight quality of care
