Registered Nurse (RN) - Extended Care
Location: Tonasket, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a nursing home locked unit specializing in extended care. The unit cares for residents with chronic diseases, dementia, Alzheimer's, and behavioral issues. This is a low-acuity setting without ventilators, tracheostomy care, enteral tube feeds, or IV therapy.
Facility & Unit Details
- Type of Facility: Nursing Home, locked unit
- Number of Beds/Residents: 40-42 (mix of private and mostly semi-private rooms)
- EMR System: PointClickCare
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- RN: 1:21 max
- LPN: 1:21 max
- CNA: 1:14 max
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Chronic diseases, dementia, Alzheimer's, behavioral issues
- Interdisciplinary Team: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Workers, Dieticians
- Respiratory Therapy: No RT on-site 24/7; nurses administer respiratory treatments
- Oxygen Therapy: Nasal cannula, home CPAP & BiPAP; no trachs or vents
- Medication: No on-site pharmacy; medications locked in carts and dispensed via local pharmacies
Job Duties
- Administer medications (only licensed nurses may pass medications)
- Provide suprapubic and urethral catheter care, wound care, and ostomy care
- No IVs or titratable drips involved
- No telemetry monitoring or reading strips required
- Participate in self-scheduling for 8-hour shifts with two weekends required per month
- Shifts:
- Day: 6 AM – 2:30 PM
- Evening: 2 PM – 10:30 PM
- Night: 10 PM – 6:30 AM
- Weekend shifts required: two per month (Fri/Sat nights and Sat/Sun days)
- Orientation: Up to 12 hours (1-2 shifts)
Staffing
- RN/LPN per shift:
- Days: 2
- Evenings: 2
- Nights: 1
- CNA per shift:
- Days: 5
- Evenings: 4
- Nights: 3
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Washington State
- BLS Certification
- Prior lift experience with equipment such as hoyers and sit-stand lifts
- Suicidal prevention training certification (6-hour course) in Washington State (training available onsite)
- First-time travel nurses accepted (please note if first-time traveler)
- Must bring own gait belt (part of uniform requirement)
Additional Information
- No holiday or call/standby requirements
- No floating requirements
- Scrub color/dress code: Any color scrubs allowed
- Physicians are off-site with on-call coverage
- Must note if clinician has previously worked at this facility
This position is ideal for RNs experienced in extended care nursing, comfortable working in a locked unit with dementia and behavioral health patients, and able to manage medication administration and basic wound and catheter care without IV or ventilator support.
