Required Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of OR nursing experience preferred
• Must have experience in trauma, ortho (total joints), general OR, ENT, gyn, urology, plastics, vascular, neuro, robotics (Da Vinci)
• CVOR experience not required unless specifically requested
• Travel experience preferred but not explicitly required

Required Certifications and Licenses

• Active California RN License
• BLS Certification required

Work Environment and Details

• Unit: Operating Room with 12 general OR suites, 1 CVOR suite, and 1 hybrid room
• Average 14 cases per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1
• EMR system: Cerner Surginet
• Charge nurse role available
• OR techs present on unit
• No floating for RNs or techs
• Floor-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts

Shifts

• 8-hour shifts:

  • 6:45am - 3:15pm
  • 2:45pm - 11:15pm
  • 10:45pm - 7:15am
• The 11pm-7am shift RN will be the only RN with one tech; must be very experienced and comfortable working independently

Call and Weekend Requirements

• RN weekend call:

  • 7am-3pm shift: one weekend of call every 6 weeks
  • 3pm-11pm shift: one weekend of call every 4 weeks
  • 11pm-7am shift: variable weekend call requirement
• RN weekday call:

  • 4-8 times per 4-week schedule (self-scheduled)
  • Call hours start at end of shift until 7am next day
  • 30-minute call response time
• Two call teams: heart and regular
• Holidays: 1 major and 1 minor holiday in both summer and winter

Additional Information

• Scrubbing preferred but not required for RNs
• Must be comfortable with a variety of surgical cases including trauma, ortho, general, and robotics
• Surgeon not in-house 24/7; OB anesthesia available 24/7 as needed
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• Scrub color and supplies provided

Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) Information (if applicable)

• Certification required (IAHCSMM or CBSPD)
• BLS required
• Minimum 2 years of sterile processing experience
• Equipment used: Steris, Sterad
• High-level disinfection and sterilization processes involved
• 8-hour shifts with call every other weekend
• No floating required

Summary

This is a travel contract opportunity for an experienced OR RN in California requiring 3-5 years of OR experience, active CA RN license, and BLS certification. The role involves working in a busy OR with a variety of surgical cases, call and weekend responsibilities, and multiple 8-hour shifts. Travel experience is preferred.
