Labor & Delivery (L&D) Nurse - Washington (Grand Coulee)

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Certifications

• ACLS
• BLS
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Heart Monitoring) — must have at least intermediate skill, advanced preferred

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year experience in L&D, neonatal antepartum, and postpartum nursing
• Must be able to work on Acute MedSurg floor
• Prior travel experience not explicitly required

Unit Details

• L&D Beds: 2 rooms
• Postpartum beds are acute care beds; short stays (<24 hours) remain in L&D room
• C-Sections performed in OR; OB nurses care for baby but do not circulate in OR
• Birth volume: 50-60 births per year
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Generally 1:1, occasionally 1:2; only 1 OB nurse staffed per shift
• No nurse aides or surgical techs on unit; RNs responsible for all patient care
• Charge nurse covers entire hospital, not specific to L&D unit

Clinical Information

• Common diagnoses: Diabetes, gestational diabetes (GDM), advanced maternal age (AMA), no prenatal care; high-risk patients referred out
• RNs required to titrate drips such as insulin and magnesium
• OB/Neonatologist coverage: Family Practice OBs available in clinic during day; on-call within 20 minutes after hours
• Anesthesia: On call, not in-house 24/7
• Respiratory therapy equipment: Nasal cannula, non-rebreather, possible high flow for newborns; no RT staff in-house
• Tele/Monitor techs: Not available; RNs monitor patients on magnesium

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM and 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM
• Set schedules, typically blocked shifts, scheduled 4 weeks in advance
• Weekend requirement: Typically every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Fill in as needed
• Floating: May float to Acute MedSurg if no OB patients

Orientation & Dress Code

• Department-specific orientation: 1 day on unit
• Scrub color: No specific color required; must be clean and professional
